Topshop First & Mini Review

These are by no means new products, well...one is fairly new, but for me they are a first! Topshop have been selling their make up range for nearly two years now, and when I think, how many times I have been in the store since then I am actually surprised I haven't picked something up sooner. I am always intrigued when clothing stores bring out a range of beauty products. You have to wonder if they will come up to scratch and be able to compete with other high street brand such as Maybelline and Rimmel, but I think Topshop have done pretty well.

So, this is what I picked up, just three little things to start. I have to say I have mixed reviews about them, one good, one bad and one ugly ok.

Lets start with the good! The first is a nail polish in "Celestial", it is such a pretty pale blue shade. As soon as I spotted it I knew I wanted to get it. It would just be so perfect for Spring and most of the blues I have are darker so this is a nice addition. I am so happy with the quality of this polish, it lasted four days before it chipped on me and with my nails that is excellent. It also applies very well. It is such a creamy colour and doesn't go on streaky at all, I would say you could even get away with one coat!

Next is an "Ok" product for me, I was a little disappointed if I am being honest. I knew I wanted to get this before I got to the shop because I had seen them so many times but I don't love it as much as I wanted to. It is a "Lip Crayon" in the shade "Powder Room". I love the colour! It is a very pretty light pink, I wouldn't say baby pink but it is a light but at the same time it is quite bright. It goes on really well, it doesn't feel drying on the lips, I just have one problem with it...it is very matte! Now this is just a personal preference and not a mark against the product its self, I just like a bit of a shine on the lips. To fix this I have been topping it with a gloss so I am still happy with my purchase, again another thing I think will be great for Spring.

Last is the product I have to call "BAD", and I do feel a little sad when I say that because I wanted to love this. The morning before I went to the shops I noticed the new "Peel Off" nail polish on the Topshop website so I knew if it was in store I was going to get it. I love love love grey-ish neutral shades of nail polish, they suit my skin tone and they just look perfect with any outfit so when I found the colour "Straight Laced" I fell for it. It is a beautiful pale grey neutral shade and I think the name is wonderful. Unfortunately the colour is all I like about this polish. First of all the formula is rubbish quite frankly! On the Topshop website it suggests to apply two thin coats of the polish, which I did. It streaks sooo badly! After two coats it looks just as bad as it does with one so I applied a third which did very little to help. After it had dried it still looked very uneven but I left it on to see how it fared, after doing the washing up that evening it started to peel up at the edges. I guess this was due to the heat from the water. The next day nearly every nail had started to peel around the edges so I decided to just take them off. I have come to the conclusion that this is very bad for your nails, it seemed to cause what looked like peeling on the top of my nail. I was very sad about this because I really don't need anything to make my nails worse than they already are.

Apart from that I am pleased and looking forward to trying more things in future, do you have any favourites from Topshop??

    1. Yeh I would stay away from them, I just don't think they are good at all for your nails!

  2. I have always been a bit cautious of the lip crayons, they look like they would be super drying on the lips?

Damn, that sucks about the last nail polish, it is a lovely colour. Nail varnish with bad staying power is one of my pet hates.

    1. I don't find them drying on my lips surprisingly, but they are very matte! I was very annoyed about the polish! I absolutely love the colour but it is just not good for your nails :(

  4. "Celestial" looks like such a pretty shade!! Perfect for springtime. Too bad about the peel-off nail polish, although peel-off nail polish sounds kind of strange to me! I've always been curious about topshop makeup... surprisingly I never tried any of it when I lived in the UK! Great reviews :) xo, Ellie

    1. Thanks :)
It is very pretty, I would like to try a few more of the colours. The more you think about it the more "peel off" polish sounds like a bad idea lol

  6. Hey! Stopping by to say thank you for the follow, and to tell you I've had a look at your blog and am following back. I love the bluey colour nail varnish, really lovely cute colour. Shame the 'peel-off' one was a bit of a disaster! I think I would be scared of peel-off colours incase they just peeled off unexpectedly! :)
