Meerkats, Cockroaches and Back to Blogging

Hello everyone, how are you all? I know I have been a little m.i.a recently and I am sorry about that. If you read my last post or if you follow me on Instagram you will know that I lost my doggy a couple of weeks ago, I really didn't feel like doing much the days following on from that. If any of you have lost a pet you will know how it feels, but I didn't plan on being gone for so long! Life just sometimes seems to get in the way.

So... I thought I would take this time to update you on what has been happening, and share a few pictures with you. Tuesday 25th was my birthday, so this week has been busier than normal - I like to stretch my birthday celebrations out over the week if I can, make the most of them! It's also been nice having a lot to do, it helped take my mind off losing Cody.

On the day of my birthday we were at the Zoo - I love the Zoo, and we always end up spending the entire day there, but this day was a little different. My mum bought me a Meerkat experience, so we actually got to go into the enclosure and feed them and give them things to play with! It was so much fun and such a great way to start the day.

The rest of the week was filled with lunches, dinners and lots of shopping...maybe too much of all three but I think that's ok when its your birthday.

On Friday Edinburgh Zoo were trialling out something new, Zoo Nights, it really was a lot of fun! It feels very relaxed and sophisticated to walk around the Zoo with a glass of champagne on a warm summer evening. And then you buy an ice-cream float and remember that you will always be a child at heart!

I also held a GIANT cockroach...something I can safely say I never thought I would do! She was actually very sweet and seemed comfortable just sitting on my hand.

So again I am sorry for being gone a little longer than I had planned, I am clearly not keeping up with my "must be more organised" new years resolution! But before I go to bed, I want to say thank you to all of you who left me sweet and supportive comments on my last post, and everyone who send me messages. It was lovely to read them and they really went a long way to helping cheer me up. Also to everyone that sent me Happy Birthday messages on Instagram, they mean so much to me!

I'm glad to be back, I also have a LOT of your posts to catch up on so that is tomorrows plans :)

Oh, but before I go, I realise that while I have been away from blogging GFC has gone! I still don't really understand why but if you would like to follow me on Bloglovin you can do so here, or by clicking the link at the side of the page.

Good night everyone

Goodbye Cody...

I debated with myself whether or not I should put this post up because well, its upsetting to write and I don't think it will be that much happier to read. In the end I thought that since I shared a little of this a few months ago when Cody became really ill it was only fair to tell you this as things are now coming to an end. When I posted about us discovering that my dog Cody had cancer I has so many sweet comments and messages which I have to say helped a lot, the blogging world has such an amazing feel of support and community and knowing there are people going through the same things as you can be such a huge help.

The treatment Cody has been on has helped a lot these past few month and has helped her to be a lot more comfortable than she was, plus let us have her in our lives a little longer. As I have said before she is nearly 13 years old which, so I have been told is 2 years more than the higher life expectancy of Dalmatians. Because of this she has some of the problems that come with old age, the main and most upsetting one has been the decline in her back legs. Overall she just isn't herself and seems very unhappy which is heartbreaking to see knowing that she has always been such a happy dog.

There is nothing we could do to drastically improver her quality of life which is at the end of the day the most important thing, I'd also never have been able to forgive myself if we were to try another pill or another treatment and while waiting to see if that had worked something horrible to happen to her. So after a lot of talking and a lot of upset we've come to the horrible decision to have Cody put to sleep, something I still can't say or type without crying. There would never have been a good time to do this and the only thing that can give me a little comfort is knowing that it's the right thing to do for her. One of the most upsetting things is that next week, June 20th would have been her 13th birthday. The vet will be coming out to our house this afternoon, I could never have taken her to the vets because she just gets so frightened so at least this way she will be a little calmer and her last moments won't be of inside the vets surgery. I know this is not a very pleasant post but I wanted to let you know and hope that you will understand if I am not around for a few days. She is and always has been one of the biggest parts of my life and to be honest, I don't know what I am going to do with out her...

Monochrome

Monochrome is one of those trends that anyone can wear and pull off well, it has the ability to be effortlessly chic and cool without too much effort at all. When ever I don't know what to wear or I am in one of those moods were I don't feel like making too much effort but still want to appear as if I have...I just throw on an oversized white t-shirt over a pair of black jeans. Or for smarter occasions a crisp white shirt, both of these can be taken from day to night with the addition of a statement necklace or a pair of heels. But for somewhat more put together looks than jeans and t-shits, I have been loving these pieces, especially the dress and clutch bag! It would be perfect for a special occasion and white is always such a great colour for summer. What might not be as appropriate for summer is the leather skirt, not when temperature can be quite high but I just love them. I still don't own one but I wish that I did, this one from Topshop is a great shape and would be suitable for everything from work to a night out.

Currently I am...

Loving the sunshine! The weather has been so beautiful for the past two weeks, it really is lovely to be able to spend much more time outside.

Wishing I had an Iced Vanilla Latte. Quick story - I first tried one of these years ago when I was quite young, I think 14? I absolutely HATED them, until this past Saturday when Starbucks where giving out free samples and I thought why not! Turns out I now love them, so when people say your tastes do change as you get older they are obviously right. They make such yummy summer drinks.

Watching Charmed. This is a program that was on TV a few years ago and I never really watched it but they have been replaying it recently and I have really got into it. I think I might download it to watch...or steal my brothers DVDs hehe.

Eating a Milky Way bar. I love these little things, I have such a sweet tooth and these feel lighter than eating a heavier chocolate bar.

Looking for a new candle for the house. I have so many Autumn Winter warmer smelling candles but I want something nice and fresh for summer. Something really uplifting for the sunny days

Dreaming of far away places. Things are a little stressful at the moment - to put it lightly! So a holiday sounds wonderful, a few days of lying on a beach somewhere beautiful!

Sunscreen Duo

I love being outside in the summer! Walking around, having a picnic, going to the beach or even just sitting in the garden but what I don't love, is sunburn! Because I am very fair I can only be outside for a short time before the sun gets me and I start to turn red, not only is this really not a good look...its also very bad for your skin. Because of this I always have to wear sunscreen...always!

I have been loving my two recent discoveries in sun care both mentioned here in my last monthly favourites post. The first is La Roche-Posay dry touch gel-cream SPF 50+. The first day I tried this out I was walking around outside in direct sunlight for over 3 hours, what was really impressive was when I got home - no redness! So for protection from the sun this is an excellent product. One of the things that bother me most about wearing sunscreen is the greasy feeling you can get from them, and I am always sceptical when sunscreen claims to leave you with no greasy/sticky residue on your skin. So I was pleasantly surprised when this one actually did as it said it would, it skins into the skin very well and dries to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. Personally I really enjoy the smell of this cream, it is the "sunscreen" smell that most of them have. It reminds me of holidays and good weather so I like it but if that's not something you enjoy then this might not be for you. My one complaint about this product is the size and what you get for the price. They come in 50ml squeeze tubes and while I love this size for popping in my bag, it wouldn't be great for a week away in the sun...I feel I would need to take quite a few, and at £16.50 a bottle that is really quite expensive!

Second is SunSense Daily Face, this is also an SPF 50+ but for your face not body (obviously!) I had never heard of this product or brand before I found this in my Glossy Box so I had a little look online to see if I could find any information on it. They are an Australian brand and they have created a range of sun protection products to suit all different skin types. When reading about the one I have I was very pleased to hear that it is good for acne prone skin, and I am happy to say I haven't had a break out from using it. The product its self is a moisturising sunscreen with a sheer tint and is designed to be used on the face and neck. I find the tint to be very sheer so I have been putting a little concealer when and where I feel I need it. The product goes on quite well and gives great protection - normally my nose burns but this seems to stop that. The only slightly annoying thing is that you don't have a great deal of time to work it into your skin, you have to move relatively fast before it starts to dry.

What are your sun care favourites? I am looking to try out a few more this summer :)

Wish List

1. There are a few Origins products I have had my eye on recently and the 10 Minute Drink Up Mask is the first. With the weather getting much warmer and the sun hitting your face all day - if your lucky, your skin can sometimes need some moisture put back into it and I have heard so many good things about this product!

2. Another Origins products I have been wanting to try is Vitazing SPF 15 moisturiser, it is raved about online so hopefully it is as good as it sounds.

3. There are so many amazing Nars blushes but I like this duo, Hungry Heat for Summer. The shades aren't as bright and are a little more shimmery, giving you a lovely glowing look with just a hint of colour

4. This doesn't need much explaining, it is an iPad! I have wanted one for a while but just haven't convinced myself to go for it yet. Does anyone have one, what do you think of them?

5. I love nearly everything that Mulberry do and one day hopefully I will own one of their stunning bags but I also love the Envelope Wallets. I especially love this bright coral colour for summer.

6. I only own one green nail polish and recently I have been looking for a couple more. I found this one, called Venus Flytrap in Topshop while I was window shopping online and I really like it. It is quite a light shade, almost pastel and I think they are so flattering to wear.

Hope you are all enjoying your week so far :)
