Current Hair Care Routine

Over the years I have gone through 3 phases with my hair, the first up until age 13 involved doing nothing at all except washing and taking care of it and until that point I was adamant that I would never dye it -EVER! Then around age 13/14 I had a few dark red highlights/lowlights (not sure what you call them) added and this started phase 2 which was 5 or 6 years of non-stop colour changing. So, from being someone who never wanted hair dye near them I became someone who had a different hair colour every few months, pink, red, blue, purple and each time it was in a different style. One of my favourites was having bright red roots of around 2 inches and the rest of my hair almost black, as nice as that looked it didn't last long because as you can probably imagine, trying to keep dying only the roots of your hair is quite difficult!

Now I am in the third phase, I haven't dyed my hair in quite a few years and am instead just enjoying it being my natural brown colour. It is also now quite long and after spending so many years with it shoulder-ish length I am in no hurry to cut it, even though in summer that sometimes crosses my mind. My hair now is in pretty good condition, even with my apparent fear of the hairdressers and it being in need of a good trim. I honestly could not tell you the last time I had a really has been that long!

Because I don't have any major issues to work out I keep my hair care really quite simple and right now it is down to 4 products. For the past few months I have been using Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect Shampoo and Conditioner, these were originally a necessity purchase while food shopping but have turned out to be a good buy. They claim to restore strength, and prevent the formulation of split ends, that is what really grabbed my attention as not having your hair cut n a long time can give you quite a few of these. I have to say I do notice a big difference however I'm not sure if they are being restored, prevented or just covered up...but how ever it is being done it does give my hair a more healthy look and feel.

For damage protection I have been using TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Spray, even though it is summer and I am trying to avoid heated styling as much as possible, I still like to spray this through my hair. I'm not entirely sure if it works in the same way but I like to think it goes a little way in helping with the heat from he sun, I spay it in after washing and leave my hair to dry naturally. Lastly i have been using and loving Moroccan Oil. Hair oils are something I am still quite new too but they have completely changed the condition of my hair, it feels softer and smoother and looks better than it has done in a long time. I use this two ways, if I am just leaving my hair to dry I will apply this while it's still damp, if I am styling my hair I will apply this at the end when I have finished. I am happy with my short and simple routine, the only thing I would like to add is a deep conditioning treatment, any suggestions for long thick hair?

Now all I need to do is get over my fear of hair cuts and get a trim! Does anyone else hate having their hair cut? I'm not sure if its the change in how it looks or the worry they wont do what I want but I would just rather not go!

  1. Love your simple hair care routine. It's a lot like mine. I try not to use so many products lol

    1. I find thing so much easier that way, it also take much less time! lol
