Special Keepsakes

Last night I was doing some tidying up and I came across piece of material I had cut off Cody's bed, if you don't know Cody was my beautiful Dalmatian that I lost a couple of months ago. Dalmatians are big dogs and so I obviously could keep the whole thing but I wanted to keep a small part of it, at the time it made me feel better to still be able to smell her. Even as she got older she still kept that "puppy" smell, if any of you have dogs you might know what I mean. I was so surprised when I picked it up that it still smelled just like her, even after months have past. It just brought back so many happy memories of her in that moment.

It got me thinking, I have quite a few things like that, things that if people where to find around my bedroom they would probably consider to be rubbish. One of the most special would be a receipt from Costa which has written on it "I owe you one engagement ring, love Pauline xxx" (Pauline is my name for Paul). When he proposed he wanted to take me to the store so we could choose the ring together, so when he actually asked me he wanted to have something to give me and so he had written on the receipt from the coffee we had bought that morning. That was honestly one of the best days of my life and I love that I still have that very sweet little keepsake.

Another would be a torn, used, scribbled on map of Dublin, it is a mess and very out dated so would probably be no use to anyone now but it reminds me of a weekend trip to the city my best friend I and took years ago. I have all the little bits and pieces from a flight Paul and I took on our first holiday together, things such as the plastic cutlery you get with your food and salt and pepper sachets. In the box they are are stored in is the most random collection of what looks honestly like rubbish...but I love it all dearly and I think it is something I will never part with.

It started me thinking just how many people actually keep things like this, my mum for instance isn't very sentimental. She will keep gifts, but even then its not all the time, and cards are things she just throws away. I don't keep every single card I have every been given but I have a collection of very special ones, they might be from special people or be hand made and too pretty to just get rid of.

Do you keep anything along these lines? Things that may look so insignificant to other people but mean the world to you. If you do I would love to hear about them, it would be nice to know its not just me.
