Miss Manga Purple Mascara

Never in my life did I think I would ever own, never mind wear, a purple mascara! I have always been a blackest of black kind of girl when it come to my lashes, never even venturing into brown, but L'Oreal have changed my world!

After a late night of reading random articles online I found myself on a page explaining what eye shadow shades go best with which eye colours. I always find this difficult because my eyes are never the same colour for very long, they seem to change from blue to green to grey, or any combination of the three. I know, it's odd, I always mean to research it to find out why... does this happen to anyone else?? Anyway, that makes it hard sometimes to try and follow those rules so I usually just ignore them, but, after reading that purple can be a good colour for all of the above it brought back to mind the L'Oreal Manga Mascara that were recently released. I needed a new Falsies anyway and Boots had on their 3 for 2 so I thought if I was going to try a purple mascara, it may as well be when it was on offer.

First of all, this is the first mascara I have ever loved from first use, normally, for me, the first few uses the product is just a little too wet to look how it should -this stuff isn't! I decided to try it without too much else going on around my eyes for the first go. I smudged a little brown eye liner along my top lash line and then applied the mascara. It goes on so well, the bend in the brush stops too much product going on at once and I have to say, probably the best "buildable" mascara I have ever tried. I applied 3 coats and there was no clumps or thick messy lashes, they just got a little longer each time and stayed separated. When I am indoors I don't notice a huge difference in colour to wearing black unless I am up close to a mirror, but it does something magical for my eyes, it makes the colour of them look brighter some how. However, when you are outside in bright sunlight...you have purple eye lashes! And I have to say, I really don't hate it! I think they look quite nice for this time of year. Even if you don't want to try a colourful mascara I would recommend them for the formula, it really is excellent. I had no flaking or smudging after a whole day of wearing it. These mascaras aren't waterproof so if that is something you look for these may not be for you, it would be nice if they did eventually come out with a waterproof version.

I will definitely be going back to get the black, but I don't think I will ever be brave enough to try the turquoise shade, it looks so bright! Maybe, just on the tips of my lashes it could look kind of fun? I did want to try and get a picture of me wearing it to show you all but I couldn't for two reasons. 1-my eyes are quite red right now and it doesn't look that great and 2- try as I might to get over it, I still don't feel that comfortable taking pictures of myself...sorry.

What do you think of the new Miss Manga Mascaras? Would you ever try the turquoise shade?

Happy Easter Weekend!

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great weekend - obviously made better by the fact that it is a four day weekend!

We have been making the most of the time baking cupcakes, shopping with friends and of course enjoying some time outside in the beautiful sunshine. Edinburgh city centre is always my favourite place to be when the sun is shinning, well, any time really but it is especially beautiful in the sun. We spent the whole day on Friday just walking around, having lunch, doing a sneaky bit of shopping - I bought purple mascara, the outcome of which is still to be seen! Today has been very different indeed, we have eaten far too much chocolate but I guess that is to be expected and we have stayed in our pyjamas. I have decided that Sunday is the perfect day to stay in and remain in your PJ's and for it to be completely acceptable. I haven't taken many but I thought I would share some of my pictures of this weekend so far.

What have your plans been this weekend? Have you been busy or have you been making the most of the time to relax?

My make up has been very simple this weekend, just a nice fresh faced look. Revlon Color Stay foundation with a little of the highlighter and blush from the palette on the right, perfect for that dewy face look. From the palette on the left I have been using the top left shadow just sweeping a little over my lids for a tiny touch of colour and shine and to finish, my favourite Falsies mascara and my go-to lip product right now, the Soap and Glory Gloss Stick. I have also worn the same accessories for the last few days. My huge over sized sunnies, from River Island I think, but they are old. My Tiffanys Key necklace because I wear it pretty much every day and a selection of dainty rings I am loving right now.

Happy Easter!

Humans Of New York by Brandon Stanton

If you are unfamiliar with Humans of New York or HONY for short, it was started by Brandon Stanton in 2010 with the goal of capturing the colourful interesting characters of New York city. He began asking questions and taking quotes from the people he was photographing to add along side the pictures, it has grown to have a huge online following and has now been made into a wonderful book. You can read more about it here.

I found HONY through browsing the popular page on Instagram, from the first picture I found I was hooked. It was of two friends sitting on a bench in a park, the quote with it was just so touching and heart warming to read, that I then spent the rest of the night with a cup of tea and that Instagram account (here). I love the idea behind the whole project, and how you can sort of, in a way, meet so many different people...or at least that is how I feel when I am reading the stories from each of them.

When it was announced that it was to be released in book form I knew I had to get a copy, I was so pleased when I opened it on Christmas morning. If you think it is your type of thing then I urge you to check out the Instagram page, I promise if you are anything like me then you will be there for a while, or, can get the book online here if you prefer.
