Made Me Happy This Week

This week our living room has been covered in paint samples, fabric swatches and piles of inspirational interiors books. We also have brick tile samples, we have decided to add a brick feature wall in the living room which excites me so much! Every since my obsession with New York began many years ago now, I have wanted a brick wall somewhere in the house. It was always something I would see in photos of studio apartments and funky lofts that were inhabited by very cool people, and now we can have one too. Even if we are no where near as cool! We have also chosen our sofa and after some drama about whether or not it would actually fit in the front door all is now fine and we will be ordering it some time in the next few days. Did you know that sofas can take 8 weeks or more to be delivered? We didn't, good thing we found out now so it will definitely be in in time for Christmas. Only 88 sleeps to go in case you didn't know!

Made me happy this week...

1. A big box delivered from River Island containing a giant red hat, that you can kind of see here. Sadly I have only been able to wear it inside this week with it being so windy but it is still putting a big smile on my face.

2. Finding our perfect sofa after searching for what seems like forever!

3. Smelling all the new Christmas Yankee candles that are coming in to stores, I just love them.

4. Paint samples. Its and odd thing, but I really do love looking through them.

5. Having my mums little dog stay with us, I love her being here. My mum is on holiday so we have her for two weeks, lots of doggy cuddles for us :)

6. Spending today watching films and making lasagne, chilled out Sundays are the best.

Have you had a good week?

Autumn Planning

If you didn't know already,  love to make lists. I have note book after note book full of them for everything from food shopping to Christmas. They are my security in a way, I always feel safer if I make a note of each and everything I need to do. Especially when it comes to food shopping, it is dangerous to go without one...more so if you are hungry!

With it now officially being Autumn, my favourite season, I have been making a list of things we would like to do while the leaves are changing. Here is what I have so far...

1. Since moving in we have been anxiously waiting for the apples in our garden to get big enough for us to use. Now that they are I can't wait to get cooking with them! Apple pie will of course be on that list but I have been craving French style pastries for a while now so first up will be apple tarts.

2. We will be picking pumpkins this year, it is now on a list so it has to be done. We have wanted to do it for the past two years but unfortunately never got round to it. This is the year!

3. Carve and decorate said pumpkins.

4. Visit the Enchanted Forest if we can manage to get tickets. We have never been but have heard amazing things about it.

5. We have decided that a picnic that includes a flask of hot chocolate and a couple of cosy blankets is a must, you can't do that in Summer.

6. I haven't made chilli in such a long time, maybe even since this time last year. It is one of my favourite things to make and eat and it is perfect for Autumn. A huge pot will be made very soon!

7. To go and watch a fireworks show this Bonfires night. I used to go every year when I was younger but in recent years we haven't and that makes me a little sad. Being a child at heart I love fireworks and being out in the cold eating hot dogs or baked potatoes while watching them always takes me back to being 6 years old.

8. Have a movie night that includes Hocus Pocus with warm homemade cookies and apple cider.

9. And of course, spend the next few weeks jumping in and running through as many piles of leaves as I possibly can!

Made Me Happy This Week

Paul spent the first half of this week recovering and getting back to health so it has been a relatively quiet week for us. I haven enjoyed a few too many Pumpkin Spice Lattes while I have been out, I am concerned it is becoming an addiction and when they take them away I am going to be left with a hole in my life. The above picture is of a very friendly chicken I met this week, she really wanted her photo taken.

Made me happy this week...

1. Very quiet afternoons when all you can hear is the wind in the trees.

2. Making pie on a Friday night, a recipe I want to share here really soon when I have improved it just a little more.

3. Waking up to a freshly made cup of tea, such a small thing but I love it.

4. Custard cream and bourbon biscuit spread! Two new find this week and a new love in our life -even if it is just a somewhat lazy way of getting biscuits in your mouth.

5. Drinking way too many Pumpkin Spiced Lattes.

6. Making lots of plans for Autumn and the weeks leading up to Christmas.

7. Being very proud of myself for having so many Christmas presents bought and hidden away already. Leaving much more time for baking and cheese eating in the run up to the day its self.

8. Burning our first Autumn candle. It had to be salted caramel, the house smells just like dessert right now.

9. A trip to Costco, I love it there!

Autumn Colour :: Burgundy

I don't think there is a colour that excites me more for Autumn -or Fall, than burgundy. It is everywhere around this time of year and while I love it, it is a colour that I have never really experimented with much. Beauty wise I think the only deep red I own comes from two nail polishes, one being Barry Ms Raspberry that I have mentioned here. I have always been a little intimidated by the shade, I am a rather pale person and I have always had very rosy cheeks. And in certain circumstances my entire face can be on the red side, for both those reasons I always think I will look silly. Even though I think the combination of pale skin and deep dark lipstick is stunning...just not sure if I can pull it off, so it will remain a dream of mine.

In terms of fashion, I own two burgundy things. These gloves, that I have had for a couple of years now and they are honestly one of my very favourite things. And a fluffy beanie hat that I picked up last year in Zara. I think burgundy is such a versatile colour for this time of year and the combination with khaki green shades is beautiful. But then I also love it with browns and navy's, and of course black. I would love to add a few more Burgundy items to my wardrobe this year here are some I have my eye on. Especially that hat!

Made Me Happy This Week

I have spent the second half of this weekend looking after Paul. Sadly he hasn't been very well but he is on the mend now -as I write this he is relaxing in a bubble bath. As well as that I have been doggy-sitting for my mum. She has been working funny hours this weekend, so when she does we have her little dog to stay. This week has also felt so much more like Autumn, the trees are definitely well and truly changing now and it makes me smile as I am out and about. Even if a few days this week have been unseasonably warm.

Made me happy this week...

1. Reading Elle while lying in a bath full of Lush bubbles

2. Monday, not one thing in particular...just the whole day. It wasn't exactly busy, in fact - I hardly did anything. But it was just the nicest day and one of those days when you don't beat yourself up for it being uneventful. After all, we are aloud to have days where we do very little.

3. New knitwear! That is all that needs to be said on the matter.

4. My mums happy little face when she pulled up outside our house in her new car, I love to see people so genuinely happy.

5. Sunshine, sunflowers, Percy no particular order.

6. Making cupcakes on a Saturday for an unplanned house full of friends and family. The flavours were vanilla with white chocolate butter cream and Dulce de Leche caramel, also, chocolate orange cupcakes with chocolate orange cream and a slice of Terry's chocolate orange...that is a lot of chocolate orange!

7. We have had my mums little dog staying with us the past two nights and it has been so lovely having her here. I love waking up to her happy little face, and also that she just wants cuddles all the time.

8. An impromptu shopping date with my gorgeous mum. A quick trip into town turned into 2-3 hours of shopping, coffee and lunch. The perfect afternoon.

How has your week been?

Brand Love: Oliva Burton

After first discovering these, I think around a year ago I have become a huge fan! Olivia Burton watches have stolen my heart with their beautiful vintage style and simple elegant design. I have never been much of a watch wearer if I am being honest, I tend to just use my phone to check the time but these beautiful time pieces make me think it's about time that changed.

The brand was started by two friends who just couldn't find what they were looking for when it came to watches. So what better thing to do than design your own, and that is just what they did. They have created a beautiful collection and there is a design for every occasion, and the light pastle colours would be amazing in Spring time.

I feel that I have been looking at them for such a long time now but the problem is, there are so many that I love I just can't decide! I've put together some of my very favourite ones for this time of year, and while I can't decide which one I like the most. The bumble bee has to be one of them!

Made Me Happy This Week

Made me happy this week...

1. Not being able to sleep at 1am so lying in bed watching Yankee Candles on QVC. It was hard in my sleep deprived state to stop myself from ordering nearly all of them.

2. Making shepherds pie on a dull grey evening, always the best time to have one.

3. Having a fresh made latte in the afternoon at home.

4. Having chocolate for breakfast isn't at all healthy but it made me very happy yesterday morning.

5. Wearing layer again this week has made me smile most days. Oh how I have missed you Autumn!

6. Seeing Halloween decorations slowly start to trickle in to the stores. It would seem that I am never going to grow up and I wouldn't have it any other way.

7. I finally, FINALLY, tasted a Pumpkin Spiced Latte! ...and I am in love. I can't believe it has taken me so long to try one, I feel there is lots of time to make up for the season.

8. We did a big clean and tidy up of the house, I would say a Spring clean but that just doesn't feel right. It is a lovely feeling to sit down and relax after everything is spotless. Oh and fresh bedding, one of the best feelings in life.

9. Today a package arrived from Zara which pleased me by it's self as I didn't realise they delivered on Sundays. But the contents of the package were so soft and fluffy that my little heart skipped a beat. Bring on the chilly air...I'm ready for you!

Have you had a nice week?

Transitional Dressing

Autumn is by far my favourite season, and Autumn Winter time is my favourite time of year for fashion. I love being able to wear layers again, don't get me wrong, I love Summer, but for me it just doesn't compare to cosy nights in and chunky knitwear -I can't wait to start wearing my huge grey cardigan again (this one here). Is it a little sad that I look forward to that? As it can still be a little warm in Autumn, this is where transitional items are best, items that can be layered but that aren't too heavy. A few thin layers are better than one thick one. Here are some of my favourites right now.

1. Topshop lightweight cardigan
2. Kurt Geiger Sam boots
3. River Island oversized coat - I have been eyeing this for a while now.
4. River Island ripped jeans
5. Zara checked scarf - (already bought this, couldn't resist)
6. River Island black lace t-shirt
7. River Island swing dress
8. Miss Selfridge oxblood fedora  - all I want to wear throughout Autumn are these hats.
9. Topshop embroidered shirt dress

What transitional bits have you have been loving right now?
