Happy Halloween

Happy Friday everyone and even more importantly...HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Sadly we aren't doing anything big or exciting tonight to celebrate, instead we will most like be doing grown up things like decorating the living room. But, we have decided that we will stop that at some point and watch something Halloweeny and eat probably far too much chocolate. There is a bag of Reese's pumpkins the kitchen that are just screaming to be eaten, if you are really quiet you can hear them!

Do you have any plans tonight? Maybe a lot more exciting than ours? I will leave you with the pictures of our pumpkins that we carved last night, I am very proud of us.

My mum got a little too excited by all the pumpkin and thought we would be doing some baking...she was really just hoping we would be making pumpkin pie but no, they were destined to be carved and filled with tea lights.

Have a great night, what ever you end up doing :)

Made Me Happy This Week

This has been a very productive week! A lot of little things have been ticked off the to-do list in the house including the painting being started in the living room, the walls are very white right now. I honestly can't wait until it is all cosy in time for the Christmas tree going up! Also, how sweet are the pictures above, I just couldn't help my self.

1. Wearing more than one pair off socks when my toes are just too cold.

2. The clocks going back. Not only did we get an extra hour in bed this morning, it was dark enough at 5.30 this evening for me to not feel bad about already being in my pyjamas

3. Gu hot chocolate, not sure if it beats Cadburys but it is bloody good.

4. Buying advent calendars, I don't care if it's too early!

5. Being inside and baking when its so cold and wet outside.

6. Paul coming home early from work a few days this week.

7. Buying giant pumpkins. I am currently trying to decide what how to carve them...any ideas?

8. My giant Zara blanket scarf, it is so big and cosy -I love it!

Happy Sunday Everyone xx

Easy Apple Tarts

When there have been so many apple around my go-to dessert is usually, apple crumble. It's simple and tasty and always requires custard...even writing this makes me want to make one! But this year I thought why not do something a little more suitable for having with a cup of tea mid-afternoon. Not that I would bat an eyelid at having crumble and custard at any time of day.

These little tarts make a great treat and they are so easy to change up to how ever you fancy. Blackcurrants are a great addition, or warm with a big scoop of ice-cream as a yummy dessert...not that I would ever encourage such things...

It would also be good as one large tart instead of six small.

{Makes six individual tarts/or one large tart}
You will need:

1 sheet of roll  out puff pastry
3 apples
1 tsp of soft brown sugar
1 tsp of powdered cinnamon
30g of butter cut into little cubes
4 tbsp of apricot jam

*Pre-heat your oven to 180c and line your baking trays with greaseproof paper. I had to use 3 trays because they are quite small but you might get away with one or two.

*Roll out your puff party sheet and cut into six smaller rectangles, you could measure them if you like but I just did it by eye. Score around the tarts making a border of about 1cm, being careful not to cut all the way through. Then prick all over the middle area with a fork.

*Peel and core your apples, then slice them in half from the stock all the way down to the bottom. Turn them on onto the flat side and slice into thin little c (ish) shapes. Half an apple does one tart.

*Start to lay your apples on to the middle of your party sheet, but try to keep them off the border as much as possible. The design is up to you, I over lapped them all the way down.

*Mix your cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle generously over each tart. Top each one with 3 or 4 little butter cubes and then put them in the oven for 25 minutes.

*When they are done, warm up your apricot jam on a low heat or pop in the microwave for a few seconds at a time. Brush your running jam over each tart to give them a lovely glaze.

And there you go! You have tasty little apple tarts to enjoy how you like, I think next time I make these little guys I might add some pecan nuts...everything is made better with pecan nuts in my opinion.

I would love to know if you give these a try, or how you would make them.

Made Me Happy This Week

This post was set to upload yesterday because I knew that I would be away for the whole night, but apparently that didn't happen. I'm not sure if it was me doing something wrong or if it was Blogger -has anyone else had problems with that kind of thing, but it is up now so all is well. I have had such a lovely week this week, we have done some fun and interesting things away from home and had some cosy evenings at home, a perfect mixture of the two I would say. The tasty cheesecake above was found away from home, and hopefully we will be back fro more soon.

Made me happy this week...

1. An afternoon of walking around the city in the sunshine and chilly air.

2. Finding a huge bargain in Kurt Geiger!

3. Having two massive jars of Nutella in the cupboard -just think of the possibilities? Even though in all honesty, most of it will be eaten straight from the jar with a spoon.

4. Visiting new places not too far from us.

5. Finding new lovely little restaurant gems, especially ones that serve steamed plum pudding.

6. Managing to paint my nails and sit long enough for them to dry without smudging. It is a constant challenge in my life.

7. Re-discovering old comfy warm clothes.

8. Enjoying the sound of heavy rain and crazy wind. All while being wrapped up inside -this makes me happier than I can begin to explain.

A Night In The Enchanted Forest

Last nigh Paul and I spent our evening in an enchanted forest -I promise I have gone mad, it's an event hosted every October in Pitlochry. It is such a lovely little town, last night was my first time visiting and I would really love to go back for a weekend, maybe to explore a little. It was nearly dark when we arrived and then we headed straight for dinner so sadly didn't get to see much. It was also my first time visiting the Enchanted Forest. Last year was the first year I had even heard of it, although I am pretty sure 2014 was their thirteenth year running.

The forest itself is just outside of the town, it's obviously there all year round, you can go fishing or for lovely walks, maybe a picnic. But for one month every year it is transformed by lights, and sound and is truly one of the best things I have ever seen. You know walking in that it is just lighting, but I found myself walking along the paths utterly amazed by it all. It was also raining which for me added to the whole experience. I'm not sure if I'm alone here, but when I imagine myself in an enchanted forest I always picture a little rain...just me? This post will definitely be very picture heavy, but it was just so beautiful it had to be shared. So, if you would like to see, then grab a cup of tea and enjoy :)

If you have made it all the way down here then well done! It was such an amazing night and each year has a new theme so we are really looking forward to see what next year will be. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all forests looked like that?

If you are interested you can find out more about the event here.

Made Me Happy This Week

If I'm being honest, this week has dragged a little. I'm not sure why, maybe because there wasn't all that much going on but I am definitely looking forward to it being Monday tomorrow. I know there are more than a few people out there that hate Mondays, but can I tell you something? I really rather like them! If I was to choose just one I would say Sunday is the day I look forward to the least, it can sometimes be quite a sad day. Its the end of a week, the end of another weekend and it can sometimes seem as if nothing is going on. That is one of the reasons I started these posts and wanted to do them on Sundays, it is a nice way to think about the week and help make me smile.

Made me happy this week...

1. Afternoon naps on a Sunday. I am not someone who enjoys naps, infact they make me feel rubbish, rather than refreshed! But I haven't slept well this week and it must have eventually caught up with me and we had a little sleep this afternoon. It was nice.

2. Pumpkins everywhere. But of course they are, it's Halloween soon and it is so bloody exciting.

3. It may still be early for some but it can never really be too early to be prepared, so this week I have been reading Christmas magazines. The joy I get from this is unreal.

4. Spending far too long in garden centres Christmas departments. I'm sorry that I seem to mention Christmas in every other sentence right now but I can't help it...I'm just so SO excited!!! I mean, look at all of those trees!

5. Paul has taken to twerking -or at least his version, to any song he hears. It makes me laugh!

6. My mum is home from her holiday and I am very glad, I have missed her.

7. Hot chocolate, probably too much hot chocolate.

8. Super fluffy slipper socks, how I have missed them through summer!

9. The Xfactor live shows have stared again and that means Saturday nights are now sorted until Christmas.

Yankee Candles

I have a huge weakness where scented candles are concerned, it's another reason I love this time of year, we seem to constantly have one burning. Our candle brand of choice is usually Yankee, they just have a scent for what seems like everything...am I right in thinking they even have a Bacon one now? So when QVC contacted me and asked if I would like to try out any they have on their website I was a very happy bunny indeed. Knowing there would be a good chance I would love which ever I chose I was quite pleased with what I picked out, but after burning them for around a week now I just had to tell you about them! The three I have are ones I have never seen in stores anywhere near me, and trust me...I'm in those stores a lot! I might also be right in thinking that two of them are US only scents and only available here in the UK on QVC, please let me know if that's wrong. I think its Blueberry and Banana Nut Bread?

The first is Banana Nut Bread, and oh.my.goodness! Have you ever baked a banana loaf? Well that is exactly how this candles smells when burning, nothing else needs said, except that it may make you want cake.

Second is Blueberry. Before even opening the box I could smell this one, it is sweet and fruity but not as sugary sweet as some more Spring/\Summer scents are, I think due to the hints of vanilla in this one. A nice scent for this time of year I think if you don't yet want to start burning the spice heavy candles.

Last is Red Velvet. If you have ever smelled Yankee's Vanilla Cupcake candle this is similar, so if you like that one I'm sure you will like this. I did wonder if it was going to be a little overpowering when burning but it wasn't at all. The house did smell like cake but not in a sickly way.

I knew the quality of these candles would be excellent as it always is from Yankee, and if you burn them properly you always get the expected burn time, and these three where no different. The scent of all three candles fill most of our house and that was only after burning for a couple of hours.

If you would like to have a look at this set you can find it here.

Made Me Happy this Week

This week October arrived and that mean so many exciting things. October has to be one of the best months of the year, it is always when you really start to notice the leaves change and feel a real drop in temperature. I love wearing coats again! Also it means that Halloween is very nearly here, I'm not sure what we are doing just yet but I am very excited. We are thinking maybe dinner and then some spooky activity in Edinburgh, there is so much spooky history in the city. Although...you will struggle to find a more terrified person than me, honestly...I hate to be scared! I haven't watch a horror film in over 10 years so it is a puzzle to me why I love Halloween so much.

Made me happy this week...

1. A lovely delivery from QVC of some amazing Yankee Candles. All scents that I have never tried before and honestly...they are all wonderful. They will be up here very soon.

2. Ordering new sofas! I never thought that would be something I was so excited about but honestly, I can't wait until they are delivered.

3. Stopping at Ikea for late night hot dogs and cinnamon buns. If you have never tried the cinnamon buns from there you must! I think they are my favourites.

4. Having a dog in the house again. It may only be for two weeks but the past 7 days have just been made so much better by having a happy little puppy here. Dogs really do bring so much to a home.

5. I know it has only just turned October but Christmas stuff is popping up everywhere and I am struggling to contain my excitement...I'm not doing well at it either.

6. Wearing coats and at night even scarfs and gloves, these little things make me so genuinely happy.

7. One of the best things in life have to be new pyjamas, they are as good as freshly washed bed sheets.

8. Having a lazy Sunday today watching films in bed.

9. It being cold but still finding butterflies in the garden.

Have a good week everyone
