My Current Everyday Makeup

As is kind of evident here on this little Internet space due to my lack of consistent posting, life has been a little busy lately. As January's gone on, days seem to have ran out of hours much faster than they did at the beginning of the year and this week isn't set to get any quieter as we head in to February. Because of this, the early mornings and not as much time to get ready, my everyday make up is down to a fine art and as quick as I think it can possibly be. I can get up, get ready and get out the door in 30 minutes!! Although it's always nice to have longer.

It's quite simple, fresh faced and suits any lip colour I want to grab as I frantically stuff things in my make up bag on my way out the door.

Base. This is a very very recent addition to my collection and I haven't fully made up my mind on how I feel about it yet. It is thankfully a good colour for me at the moment. Something I hate about buying drugstore foundation is not always being able to check the shades properly. It needs a little less blending than my beloved Revlon Colour Stay, and gives a good even coverage. I've so far only applied it with a brush and I like the finish it has.

Eyes. I absolutely adore the light brown matte shade in the Cosmic Bronze palette from Fleur de Force. I put it all over my lid, and a little past my crease with a flat brush and then blend out the edges. With the dark brown shade (also in the palette) I smudge it along my lash line and add a little through my brows. I finish off my eyes with some mascara, at the moment I'm still using up my YSL Baby Doll -however, I don't like it anywhere near as much as Loreal's False Lash Sculpt.

Cheeks. My much loved NARSissist cheek palette is always what I turn to when I'm in a hurry. Mainly because it has blush and bronzer in one convenient place, even if the bronzer is nearing the end of it's life. But also because they are two of my favourite products. I use a little bronzer to warm up my face, and the blush to give my cheeks a glow, and then I'm ready for the day!

I usually have three or four lip products in my bag somewhere so the one I use will change almost daily. But the one thing I will use each morning is my Eight Hour Cream, it's my favourite product for colder weather and dry lips.

What are your current makeup favourites?

Made Me Happy This Week

made-me-happy-this-week

I've decided two things this week. One, that this is most definitely the quickest a month has gone by -I mean, it's February in a few days...how is that even possible? Also, that while January can sometimes be thought of as a bit of a "blah" month, it has some of what I think are my favourite early mornings. The air is crisp, the sun is shining and there is a blanket of frost everywhere, it's just beautiful.

1. A naughty McDonalds breakfast with C. Enabled entirely by me, and enjoyed at her house before making lots of tissue paper flowers.

2. The fog or mist that hangs around until late morning, it leaves the usual everyday places looking rather magical.

3. It may have started yet but our excitement levels are very high this week. Marvels Agents of Shield starts again this week and we cannot wait!

4. A morning of kilt shopping with Paul's mum and dad. A fun morning, even if he found nothing that he liked.

5. Looking at sprinkles online. I guess no surprise seeing as I bake a lot but it's become one of my favourite things to look for.

6. Planning a fun Valentines bake, I think you're gonna like it!

7. Trying new breakfast spots on cold mornings.

8. Snacking on tiny chocolate orange segments that are still left over from Christmas.

Made Me Happy This Week

made-me-happy-this-week

This week began with blue Monday, apparently the worst day of the year for everyone. But I'm pleased to say that mine was just lovely! C came up for a visit, not only did we have a lovely catch up, but we enjoyed a homemade afternoon tea, of sorts - something I think should be mandatory for all Mondays! We had tiny finger sandwiches, macarons, and freshly made scones with butter and jam. And, what made it all even more exciting was that I finally got the chance to use the beautiful tea set I got for Christmas. This week Paul and I also had our first Easter treat of 2017 -I swear we honestly do eat more than just chocolates and sweets! Now, people go on and on about Christmas starting too early...but isn't Eater in January just a little bit ridiculous? I say that, but it wont stop us eating the eggs, they were Caburys and full of Oreo cream, and they came with tiny spoons!

1. Freshly washed hair. It always makes me feel so much better, even if it can sometimes be a chore.

2. Freshly made coffee in the morning. Paul is usually out of bed before me and I love that he brings me a cup before he leaves for work. The smell of fresh coffee first thing in the morning is one of the best ways to wake up.

3. Pasta and ice-cream on a Saturday night, eaten while wrapped up in throws on the sofa.

4. Paul's mum and dad have just had a log burner installed (I now want one!), and we spent a cold afternoon chatting while sitting by a lovely, cosy fire.

5. Sookies New York hoodie. Her running around with it on is honestly the cutest thing in the world!

6. My Asos galaxy print pyjamas, I got them before Christmas for an absolute bargain by using a couple of my vouchers, and I just love them. They're so comfy and have the cutest print. If you're interested they still have some in the sale here.

7. Lunch dates with Paul, always perfect no matter where we go.

8. An afternoon in a chilly Edinburgh, even when it's cold and grey I still adore it.

Currently I am...

currently

Missing New York. That city has such a special place in my heart and I turely love it! I'm not sure what's made me miss it more this week than any other, but until we go back I'll re-live it through our pictures and memories.

Feeling a little uninspired. I was full of such positivity when we first started in January. I had ideas and plans but when I sit down to write, nothings comes, when I start to take photos -they just don't look right! Either it's the mood I'm in or my lack of inspiration has hit a low and well...it's really bothering me. I think I need to get out more. I've been mostly at home in January and the same four walls could be having a negative effect on my creativity.

Loving my new dressing table. The bedroom hasn't been decorated so it looks so out of place at the moment but I love it regardless! I need to fill it up with all of my bits and pieces because it's still sitting there empty

Drinking far too much tea and no where near enough water. I'm blaming the cold weather for this one...totally and completely! I usually am so good with the amount of water I drink, I think it helps you feel better look better and its good for you. But it's just so cold right now that I want something that's going to warm me from the inside out, and it always ends up being tea. And yes, I know, I could have hot water, but I don't really like it.

Listening to Ed Sheerans new music. He writes such beautiful songs and Castle on the Hill has been on repeat for so long now that I think my Spotify may soon refuse to play it.

Trying to get back into an actual exercises routine. We've been on and off so far this year and it really is something that needs to change. I feel so much better when I exercise, but I'm still at that point where I have to force my self to get over the initial hurdle of "I'd rather be on the sofa", but I'm sure I'll get there.

Watching Modern Family because it's started again and I couldn't be happier! It's honestly one of my favourite shows, I could watch episodes over and over again. If you've never seen it you should give it a go, I promise you'll fall in love with the characters. It also remind me of our trip to New York! We watched it on the plan on the way there, and in the airport as we were coming home.

Planning everything! I feel as if all I've done today is book tables, plan days, arrange meetings and appointments and it's left me feeling as if there is so much going on! It's all very doable -or at least I'm hoping it is. I think things feel a little less organised because I'm without a diar/planner this year, I still havent picked one up. I'm sure once I sit and organise my life with list's, it will all seem much easier. Some of it's also very exciting so it gives us things to look forward to.

What are you currently...?

Made Me Happy This Week

made-me-happy-this-week

Ok, I admit it...after saying how I was going to be much more organised this year, this week has escaped me. But for good reason! So I hope you forgive me. Although a busy week, it's been a rather good one. After years of trying to find a dressing table that I first came across in a magazine, in a cafe, while waiting in a train station. I FINALLY tracked one down. I've seen a few over the years but they weren't in great condition, or they would be at the bottom of the country, and by the time I worked in the price of getting it to me, it just wasn't worth it. This one, was a 40 minute drive from us and I could see it in person. It's in such beautiful condition, and as I got to have a little look around the warehouse where it was being kept, I also found a trunk too! It needs a little love, but I do enjoy a bit of diy. Also, I realised today that it's Friday the 13th. Do you go by the superstition that bad things will happen, or is it just another day to you? I'm not a superstitious person, so for me it's just a day like any other.

1. Snow! We may not have much, but I'm enjoying it all the same. It's honestly one of my favourite things.

2. Kinder Chocobons, aka: the most addictive sweets in the world! I'm not going to lie, Paul and I ate a whole bag of them last night. This is why we didn't make resolutions.

3. My newest bobble hat, I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before but it's been keeping my head warm every day this week.

4. Helping my mum plan a surprise trip for my grans 80th birthday later this year. I think shes going to love it, I also can't believe she's going to be 80!

5. Eating dinner in bed on cold snowy nights.

6. Having a make up clear out and de-clutter. Somethings had been kept for far too long!

7. The tiny icicles that have formed outside our upstairs hall window.

8. Cranberry scented oil from The Body Shop. We bought it a couple of years ago, and I'm sure it was a Christmas scent, but it has a fresh fruity smell that's currently filling the house.

Made Me Happy This Week

made-me-happy-this-week

Can you believe the first full week in January has gone?! I feel as if I spend most of my time these days being remarking at how quickly time seems to be passing, or being shocked that anther month has gone by. I have the feeling that 2017 may be the shortest year yet, and I for one want to make the very most it, plus it does contain some pretty exciting things! Even though we're just over a week into January now, things still seem off to me and I'm forgetting what day it is a lot of the time -I wonder when it will all feel as if it's back to normal?

1. Ed Sheerans new music, I must have had Castle on the Hill on over 50 times today!

2. A Chai latte mix that means I can have them at home, just the way they taste in Costa.

3. The little robin who has become a regular in our garden, I see him almost every morning these days.

4. Having people up for dinner on the 1st this year. It's not something we've done before, but it was lovely so I'm sure we'll do it again.

5. Eating left over sticky toffee pudding. I'm going to have to share the recipe one day -its so good!

6. The rumours that we could have snow soon! I know it's a little late but I still can't wait to find out if it's true.

7. Freshly washed cosy throws on the sofa, just perfect on those cold nights.

8. Making the tastiest sundaes on New Years Eve. Mine had everything from brownies to Reese's Cups. All topped off with cream of course.

The New Year, and Thoughts on Goals and Resolutions

New-Year-And-Resolutions
(Some polaroids from New Years Eve)

New Years a funny thing, don't you think? There's so much hype leading up to and around it, everyone is full of hope and promise, goals and resolutions as we head into a new January and a New Year. It's funny because at the same time it feels new, almost as if everything has started again and we have a whole New Year and a whole new chance at achieving our goals, but also that life is just back to normal after the madness of Christmas. Just back to the usual day to day, without the festivities and decorations -accept with a cupboard full of Christmas chocolate that somehow needs to be eaten!

Regardless of the reason for the feeling the New Year brings, it's hard not to get swept up in it, to get into the feeling of a whole new year to do with as you please, and it does leave you feeling happy, hopeful, making plans and even feeling a little more organised than the previous 12 months. Thinking of everything you can do with the next 365 days and trying to make it better than the last. It's a good feeling.

I never used to be one for resolutions, I never made them or even gave them much thought. The past two (or three?) years I gave them a go and to be honest -they were forgotten about. I think the reason for it is that a year is such a long time to stick to something! Goals are good, and I work well with goals, even with something such as decorating a room. If I decide a date I want it finished by, I will make sure it's done! If there are no plan then it can just be done when I get to it, and it' the same with most things in life. But I have to admit that if I think of them in terms of a year they can sometimes feel overwhelming and leave me worrying that I'll fail...or feeling disappointed before the years even out.

This year I won't be making any big life changing year long resolutions. There are a few things I want to do, some personal, some not so much, but my plan is to set small monthly targets and keep track of how I'm doing as the year goes on. Some of the not so personal are to learn to use my camera properly, and keep up with an exercise plan. I've never been someone who wants to exercise -to be totally honest I have to force myself almost each and every time. But I also know how good it makes me feel and how good it is for me. I have no set weight loss goals, no targets I want to meet, I just want to set small goals to keep up with and improve my fitness. And with my camera, I would like to learn more about it, and how to use it. There is so much more that can be done with it and I'd like to make the most of that. Especially as I'm almost always taking pictures, it seems a shame not to.

Another reason I want to stick to small monthly targets is to help me be more organised. I feel as if 2016 was the year of chaos and mess when it came organisation, so I hope setting out monthly plans will help with that. I felt disorganised with blog posts, plans and occasions, and just day to day things...so I'm hoping to put a stop to that this year!

How do you feel about resolutions? Do they help you or do you just never make them?
