Out of 'The Ordinary'

Over the last year the hype around brand The Ordinary has reached a level that some brands can only dream of. It's everywhere, and you can't talk to anyone about skincare without them raving about it. After seeing it on Asos one day, I decided that I had to give it a try too seeing as the price point is so tempting. I picked up four things from the range, I've been using them now for around 6 weeks so I wanted to share my thoughts on them. The brand is very focused on ingredients and how they all work, and I can't pretend to fully understand the science behind it all, so I'm just going to stick to my thoughts and experiences from using each one

Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5 - This is one of my favourites from the four things I've tried (joint first with Advanced Retinoid 2%). It states that it can be used in the AM and PM, but I've been mostly using it in the morning before my moisturiser. My skin can often be dehydrated, and to find something at this price point that does what some expensive serums do, is quite amazing! I take four drops in my palm, rub my hands together and then press over my face. I do this before moisturising, and it leaves my skin feeling hydrated throughout the day, also looking much healthier. I've also found that make up applies much better since I've been using this magical stuff!

Advanced Retinoid 2% - As mentioned, this is my joint favourite with the Hyaluronic Acid. I honestly love the combination of these two products! This one I use at night, after cleansing and before any other products I'm using. It's a lovely thin milky texture, and it absorbs very easily into the skin I'm used to similar products so I use this almost every night, but if you have very sensitive skin you could use it every other. I've had no side effects, no brakes outs, and I haven't had any problems with dryness, although I've heard some people have. I've noticed my skin looks brighter and feels so lovely and soft when I wake up. I think using this in the evening and the Hyaluronic Acid in the morning is the perfect combination for me. And remember, when using retinol or retinoid products, you must always use SPF during the day to protect your skin when it's even more susceptible to sun damage.

Natural Moisturizing  Factors +HA - This is a funny one for me. The product it's self is good. It's a light cream, that absorbs well into the skin, and it does so quite quickly. It leaves your skin feeling moisturised, as it claims to. The reason I'm unsure about it isn't due to the product, it's simply that I don't reach for it. At all. I find that the Hyaluronic Acid gives me all the hydration I need, so I never feel the need to use this on top of, or as well as. If you are someone who occasionally suffers from dryness and needs a little extra surface hydration then this would be a great one for you. But as I've fallen for the first product mentioned and it's a firm favourite in my routine, it makes this product unnecessary.

Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% - Now, from all that I've tried, this is definitely my least favourite product. And it's not one I would repurchase. The Ordinary say it can be used in the morning or at night, but honestly, I think this is an evening only product. There is a stinging sensation, which is explained before using -and that's fine, it passes after a while. But the texture of this product is just not something I can get along with! It's very grainy, and for me, the grains seem to stay around even 20-30 minutes after applying. The product doesn't seem to sink into the sink properly, meaning it's not great for layering make up on top of. While vitatim C is fantastic for the skin, and while I think my skin looked brighter and smoother after using it, I just can't get past the texture. It's not something I can use in the morning and it's not a feeling I want on my skin as I go to sleep. So sadly, this ones a no.

My overall opinion, is that these products more than deserve the hype they've been getting online! They are giving you results you would expect from high end beauty brands but for a very affordable, remarkable price point. Unlike so many products you try and test that show you little to no change in your skin, you do see results from this range. And can I just take a moment to mention the packaging! I love it! I think it looks very premium, very high end with it's sleek simple white branding. And the little glass bottles have had pride of place on my dressing table.

If you still haven't tried anything from The Ordinary then I would 100% recommend giving it a go, you can find it here on Asos.
